What is Safer Together?
Safer Together is an industry-led safety initiative developed by Queensland resources and civil construction operators to standardise IVMS requirements across worksites. The specification defines minimum standards for heavy vehicle monitoring — covering fatigue detection, distraction monitoring, seat vibration alerts, driver identification, speed zone compliance, and CAN bus integration.
Safer Together compliance is mandatory for heavy vehicle contractors working on registered sites. The IVMS Specification (Rev 2) covers telematics for all vehicles — speed, seatbelt, harsh events, rollover, geofencing. For Heavy Vehicles specifically, the separate HV Specification’s Appendix B adds Advanced Fatigue and Distraction Detection (AFDD) via a dedicated driver-facing camera — this has been mandatory since 31 December 2025
Safer Together originated in Queensland but is increasingly referenced by resources operators nationally as the benchmark heavy vehicle safety standard.
Note for contractors: If your client or site operator has specified Safer Together compliance, confirm whether they require the full HV Specification including Appendix BAFDD requirements, or an earlier revision. Geobox can help you interpret the specification and recommend the most cost-effective compliant solution.
The Geobox Safer Together Stack — VT3600AI
VT3600AI covers the IVMS Specification directly, and with the C29N add-on meets the HV Specification’s AFDD requirement for heavy vehicles.
AI Dashcam
VT3600AI — Geobox Flagship AI Dashcam
Built-in road-facing camera (up to 1920P) + built-in cabin-facing camera (up to 1080P)
Supports one external AHD camera + one external IPC camera — up to 4 video channels total (2 built-in + 2 external)
Built-in ADAS: lane departure warning, forward collision warning, headway monitoring
Built-in DSC (driver behaviour detection) — for full DMS fatigue/distraction accuracy, the C29N add-on camera is required (this matches Component #2 below — the C29N
isn’t optional for genuine AFDD accuracy, it’s what makes the DMS algorithm work properly rather than the less-accurate built-in DSC)
Dual Micro SD card storage, up to 1TB per card (2TB total)
Built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G, GPS/GNSS
3-channel IO input, 1 CAN channel (J1939), 1 RS232 channel, 1 iButton channel
Seat vibration output requires the V1.1 Powerbox (replaces the standard power box that ships with the unit) — this is what “V1.1 Powerbox” refers to elsewhere on this page, not a built-in feature of the core dashcam
6-axis sensor: harsh acceleration, harsh braking, harsh cornering, collision detection (note: RT’s spec doesn’t require cornering detection, but the hardware does support it — no change needed to the RT page content on this point)
What’s in the Full Safer Together Compliance Stack?
Safer Together compliance requires more than a dashcam. The complete integration stack covers AFDD, seat vibration, driver identification, speed zone alerting, and CAN bus monitoring — each component playing a specific role in meeting the specification.

C29N DSM AI Camera — AFDD
3
Seat Vibrator Kit — Mandatory Physical Alert
Seat vibration is mandatory under the Safer Together specification. The Geobox Seat Vibrator Kit connects directly to the VT3600AI native digital relay output — no DataHub or additional power box required.
4
Snapper Global BLE + In-Cab Buzzer — Speed Zone Alerting
The Snapper deviceholds Safer Together registered geofences onboard — when a vehicle enters a speed zone, the Snapper triggers the in-cab buzzer directly via digital output (instantaneous, no cloud round-trip required). The sustained speed breach also triggers a speeding event video clipon the VT3600AI.
5
iButton Reader or PIN Pad — Driver ID
Driver identification is mandatory. The iButtonreader connects natively to the VT3600AI 1-Wire interface — no additional hardware required. The PIN Pad (iKEY) is the preferred option for fleets where tag management overhead is a concern — drivers enter a PIN rather than carrying a physical tag
6
CAN Harness — Seatbelt, Speed Pulse & 4WD Monitoring
The CAN harness connects the VT3600AI to the vehicle’s CAN bus, providing seat belt status, speed pulse, and4WD engagement monitoring. Required for full specification compliance. Harness specification varies by vehicle make and model — Geobox configures to suit your fleet.
Optional
R-Watch Driver Feedback Display
A-pillar mounted driver feedback screen showing real-time TSR speed limit readings, fatigue alerts, and zone alerts. Recommendedfor sites where clear in-cab visual feedback is required alongside the audible buzzer.
Optional
Face ID Driver Identification
Face ID driver identification via the Autonomiseplatform — uses the C29N camera for passive biometric driver ID without tags or PIN entry. Available as an optional monthly add-on.

Why the VT3600AI Outperforms the Alternatives
Not all AI dashcams can deliver full Safer Together AFDD compliance. The two most common limitations in competing solutions:
Dedicated DSM camera vs integrated cabin camera
The Safer Together HV Specification Appendix B AFDD requirements demand reliable fatigue and distraction detection in allconditions — including with glasses, PPE, at night, and in high-vibration environments.Integrated cabin cameras, where the driver-facing lens is shared with the dashcam unit, produce a smaller face image at a less optimal angle. The VT3600AI with the C29N dedicated DSM camera is purpose-built for this requirement.
Native seat vibrator output - requires the V1.1 Powerbox
Seat vibration is mandatory under the Safer Together specification. Some competing solutions require an additional DataHub or power box toenable seat vibration output, adding cost and installation complexity. The VT3600AI has a native digital relay output — the Seat Vibrator Kit connects directly, no additional hardware required
Dual SD card storage, up to 2TB total
High-vibration mining and civil environments are hard on storage. The VT3600AI supports dual Micro SD card storage, with up to 1TB per card and 2TB total capacity, providing flexible, high-capacity video storage for demanding mining and civil environments.

“I have recently had 5 IVMS units installed by the team at Geobox on a range of vehiclesand trucks. I am very happy with the units and the performance of the new software theyrun. I did have some minor teething issues at the start but Mike and the team are ontofixing any issues or making adjustments at a moments notice. A company that servestheir clientele as well as Geobox are becoming harder and harder to find. I highlyrecommend working with Geobox for any IVMS compliance or equipment.” — Leighton Manning
Frequently Asked Questions — Safer Together IVMS Compliance
What is Safer Together IVMS compliance ?
Safer Together is an industry-led safety initiative that sets a standardised IVMS specification for heavy vehicle fleets operating on resources and civil construction sites. The specification is mandatory for contractors working on Safer Together registered sites —primarily in Queensland and South Australia, but increasingly referenced nationally. It defines minimum requirements for fatigue detection, distraction monitoring, seat vibration alerts, driver identification, speed zone compliance, and CAN bus integration.
What is AFDD and why does it matter for Safer Together?
AFDD stands for Advanced Fatigue and Distraction Detection. The Safer Together Heavy Vehicle Specification Rev 4.0 Draft Appendix B requires AFDD via a dedicated driver-facing camera — not just an integrated cabin camera on the dashcam unit. This means a separate DSM (Driver Status Monitoring) camera is required for full Appendix B compliance. Geoboxuses the C29N dedicated DSM camera with the VT3600AI to meet this requirement.
Is seat vibration mandatory for Safer Together?
Yes. Seat vibration is mandatory under the Safer Together specification. The physical in-seat vibration alert must trigger when a fatigue event is detected. The Geobox VT3600AI has a native digital relay output — the Seat Vibrator Kit connects directly withoutrequiring an additional DataHub or power box.
What is the difference between Safer Together and mine site IVMS compliance?
Safer Together and WA mine site IVMS (Rio Tinto, Fortescue, BHP, Roy Hill) are separate compliance regimes serving different industries and geographies. In our experience, the same contractor rarely needs both — Safer Together applies primarily to heavy vehicleoperators on gas, civil, and resources sites in QLD and SA, while WA mine site IVMS applies to contractors accessing Pilbara iron ore operations. If you are unsure which applies to your contract, contact us and we will confirm.
Can I use the VT3600AI for both Safer Together and mine site IVMS ?
Yes. The VT3600AI with the full Geobox integration stack meets both Safer Together compliance requirements and the most demanding WA mine site IVMS specifications including Rio Tinto Group One. It is the most capable device in the Geobox range and the recommended solution where maximum compliance coverage is required.
Does Geobox offer a trial before committing to a full fleet rollout ?
Yes — Geobox offers a try-before-you-buy pilot for Safer Together compliance. Given thesignificant investment involved in a full fleet rollout, we recommend deploying on a smallnumber of vehicles first to verify compliance with your site operator before committing.Contact us to discuss pilot options.
How long does Safer Together installation take ?
Installation of the full Safer Together compliance stack (VT3600AI, C29N camera, seatvibrator, driver ID, CAN harness) takes approximately 3-4 hours per vehicle by a qualifiedauto-electrician. Geobox provides installation through our network of Perth-based andnational installers. Devices are shipped pre-configured and pre-activated — the vehicle isvisible on the platform as soon as power is applied.
